Message from the President of the Friends
|
Greetings! It’s been my great
pleasure to serve as president this year. It seems like only yesterday
that we celebrated the opening of our beautiful new Folsom Public
Library, the Georgia Murray Building. It has now been two years, and the
library is busier than ever. In addition, the Norman R. Siefkin
joint-use Library is in full operation at the Vista del Lago High
School. It has been an exciting time to say the least!
The purpose of the Friends of the Folsom Library is to benefit the
programs and projects of the Library. The proceeds from our book sales,
the BOOKtique, book spine program, dues, donations, and the “Giving
Tree” programs have earned over $30,000 this year. We are proud that we
have donated well over $120,000 for library programs in the past two
years.
“Budget looks dire, cuts threaten” was a recent newspaper headline, and
this grim financial time affects the Folsom Library as well. However,
the incredible library staff is searching for ways to maintain the
wonderful programs and services that are now offered by the library. If
you have a few hours a week, please consider volunteering time to help
stretch the resources of the library. I have found this to be rewarding
and fun. We also invite you to become more active in Friends’
activities. We would love to put you to work!
We sadly accept the resignation of Gail Kipp from the Friends’ Board of
Directors. Gail has been active in Friends’ activities since its
inception. She has worked tirelessly to help get the Georgia Murray
building built. She served as president of this organization for 10
years and was on the Library Commission for 15 years. We will miss her
leadership and expertise. Thank you, Gail, for your outstanding
contribution!
I wish you all a prosperous, healthy, and happy new year.
I am thrilled to be part of this wonderful group who dedicate talent,
time, and effort to benefiting our library and the Folsom community.
Mary Sessarego, President
Thank you for your support!
